Served as the second Commanding Officer of USS GAMBIER BAY (CVE 73).

Awarded the Navy Cross for his action at Samar.

CO, Naval Air Station, Chincoteague, Virginia.

CO of Naval Ordnance Test Station, China Lake, California from September 23, 1949 to October 31, 1952.

Served as Commander, Fleet Air, Hawaii from 1953 to 1954.

Retired as Rear Admiral in 1954.

Rear Admiral Vieweg died in 1960.
