From the deck of escort carrier KALININ BAY (CVE 68) the doomed GAMBIER BAY (CVE 73) is surounded by heavy enemy shell fall.  

Quoting CVE KITKUN BAY's Ship's History, "the leading enemy cruisers were concentrating their fire on our nearest ship the GAMBIER BAY, and all hands on our ship offered a prayer in their hearts for the well being of our many friends on this companion of over 70,000 miles of war time cruising, successful cooperation, and friendly rivalry...."
