"TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT"
"Japanese shells splash all around the escort carrier USS WHITE PLAINS as fighter planes of the USS KITKUN BAY (foreground) start to 'scramble' aloft to attack the Jap fleet during 'Round Three' of the Second Battle of the Philippine Sea on October 25, 1944. In this action an escort carrier group of the Seventh Fleet fought off a superior Jap force until the latter broke off the action."
