Two crew members near the forward elevator man a fire hose aboard the escort carrier USS KALININ BAY (CVE 68) during the Battle Off Samar. Upon close observation, you can see the deck is littered with splinters and debris from action with the Imperial Japanese Navy Centre Force. KALININ BAY took about 15 8-inch shell hits, all amour piercing, during the engagement. The escort carrier USS ST LO (CVE 63) lays smoke in the background.
