TAKAO
was heavily damaged by US submarine DARTER on 23 October 1944, in Palawan Passage, enroute to the Battle Off Samar. She was dispatched for the return trip to Borneo with two destroyers.

ATAGO was sunk by US submarine DARTER on 23 October 1944, in Palawan Passage, enroute to the Battle Off Samar.

MAYA was sunk by US submarine DACE on 23 October 1944, in Palawan Passage, enroute to the Battle Off Samar.

CHOKAI was torpedoed on 25 October 1944 during the Battle Off Samar by TU 77.4.3 DE ROBERTS and later heavily damaged by aircraft of the TU. Scuttled same day by HIJMS FUJINAMI.
