Final photograph of Escort carrier USS ST LO (CVE 63) before she sank

This very impressive photograph may very well be the last shot taken of escort carrier USS ST LO (CVE 63) before she sank beneath the deep waters of the Philippine Sea.  She is still smoking furiously with a forty-degree starboard list and is noticeably down by the stern...the starboard side of her flight deck is awash.   One of the surviving destroyer escorts of Taffy III stands closely by to render assistance to the survivors.  This photograph was taken from USS HEERMANN (DD 532).
