Disposition of Task Unit 77.4.3 shortly before contact with Centre Force

Early Morning Disposition of Taffy III

At 0630 on October 25, 1944, Taffy III had just completed early morning flight operations. A signal had been sent to all ships to "...secure from General Quarters and set Condition 3, normal underway watches..." The men of the task unit went to breakfast and settled in to their morning routine. Seven minutes later, first contact with the IJN Centre Force would be made via radio communications on the inter-fighter direction network.
