The Japanese Peace Monument, located on the island of Samar,
Philippines, is dedicated to peace and was put in place to honor all men, Japanese and
American, who fought in the Battle Off Samar on 25 October 1944. It was erected by a lone
Japanese survivor from one of the warships of Vice Admiral Kurita's Imperial Japanese Navy
Centre Force. It is the only monument in existence on the island of Samar which is
dedicated to the namesake naval battle.
